The Business Diploma Program at New Zealand College is a 4 semester programme (18 months or 2 years) run by experienced and well-qualified NZC tutors.

Introduction
The New Zealand Diploma in Business is a challenging programme. It will form a valuable part of your life-long learning. Whether you have aspirations for further tertiary study or wish to pursue other life-goals living and working in New Zealand, this programme will provide you with the skills and attributes to meet the opportunities you will face.
Objectives of the New Zealand Business Diploma
New Zealand Business Diploma is a general applied business qualification at levels 4–6.

According to the NZQA (2003, p. 26) Assessment and Certification Rules and Procedures, the objectives of the qualification are to develop graduates who will demonstrate:

(a) the ability to apply a broad range of generic business skills, principles and practices

(b) the ability to apply technical knowledge and skills particular to a specific business field

(c) an organized approach to problem solving

(d) recognition of the ethical dimensions inherent in decision making

(e) well-developed critical thinking capabilities

(f) effective communication and well-developed inter-personal skills

(g) self direction and independent working practices

(h) acceptance of responsibility for the quality of own work outcomes

(i) ability to guide and supervise the work of others

(j) acceptance of responsibility for, and ability to manage, own further learning and development

(k) ability to work effectively in diverse cultural contexts

(l) ability to work effectively in group situations.
Entry Requirements, Courses & Prerequisites
Entry requirements for the New Zealand Business Diploma are as follows:
  • Successful completion of 11 years of school in English, or,
  • Successful completion of a previous programme at a tertiary level approved by the Director or programme Coordinator, or,
  • Successful completion of 11 years of schooling, and,
    • An IELTS score of 5.5 band, or,
    • An equivalent score on a measure approved by the Director or Programme Coordinator (e.g. transfer from another institutions, English proficiency based on previous academics, New Zealand Business Diploma).

Schedule
All classes have 6 taught hours per week, including 2 hours of small group tutorial. All class offerings are subject to enrolment

To successfully complete the New Zealand Business Diploma you will need to pass 12 papers:
  • 6 x 100 level courses
  • 4 x 200 level courses
  • 2 further papers at 100 or 200 level

* You must also successfully complete six of the core courses noted.

All 200 level courses have prerequisites that must be completed.
Learning & Support Services
While you complete your New Zealand Business Diploma with the New Zealand College, you may need access to certain resources. The following is a brief list of what is available;

Library
The New Zealand College has a Business Library containing text books, business journals and periodicals that you may find useful. These items can be borrowed as ‘desk copy’; this means they may be used in the student study room, but not removed.

Student Study Room
The Student Study Room is in the business wing of the New Zealand College. You will find comfortable chairs, study spaces, the Business Library and seated desks available. The Student Study Room is a quiet space.

Accommodation & Homestay
The New Zealand College has a Homestay Coordinator who is on site every day. If you need help find, arranging or leaving accommodation, please seek the Homestay Coordinator’s assistance.

Community & Cultural Networks
As an international student, you may want to contact other people from your country who are living in New Zealand. Lists of cultural and ethnic networks are displayed in the student lounge or ICT centre.

ICT Centre
The ICT Centre is next to the kitchen area and contained internet-connected computers. You may use you WWW allowance to access the internet for email or research. Training is offered during orientation on specific computer applications.

AUT Through our agreement with the Auckland University of Technology, you have access to a wealth of information, social and welfare services. Specific resources provided to you are in your enrolment pack.
Frequently asked questions
  • How long does it take to get accepted?
    Usually students need to wait 6 weeks for a conditional letter of acceptance for a New Zealand university. We can offer this in 48 hours.

  • What English level do I need?
    Usually students need to have an IELTS score of 5.5 to enter the programme for a New Zealand university. Our students can study English at the same time as completing the New Zealand Business Diploma if their English is good enough.

  • What if my English, level is too low?
    English language tuition is offered at the New Zealand College for 12 or 24 weeks before beginning the New Zealand Business Diploma if students have no English ability.

  • Can I enter university after completing the Dip Bus?
    Completion of the New Zealand Business Diploma with the New Zealand College may allow students to enter any New Zealand University.

  • Can I get university credit for the NZ Dip Bus?
    Completion of the New Zealand Business Diploma, with a B average, with the New Zealand College may allow students to enter Year Two of a Bachelor of Business.

  • How long will it take to complete the NZ Dip Bus?
    Students can complete the New Zealand Business Diploma in 18 months instead of 2 years. This allows them to move into a New Zealand University faster.

  • Does this help my immigration chances?
    Completion of the New Zealand Business Diploma gives the student 12 points for immigration purposes.

  • When can I enter the Dip Bus program?
    Three trimesters means we have three intakes each year, March, July and November!
